Various fragments of DNA are separated during agarose gel electrophoresis. Pattern of DNA fragments obtained from the suspect(s) are compared with the DNA fragments from crime scene samples. Depending upon the unique DNA pattern of a stained gel, students will find out the suspect involved in a crime. No human DNA is used in this experiment. Time Needed to Complete the Experiment: Casting the gel: 25 minutes. Loading DNA samples: 10 minutes. Running time for electrophoresis: 45 minutes.
